Crossover music star Yanni is set to open the new concert season in Abu Dhabi.

The celebrated Greek composer and multi-instrumentalist will bring his latest world tour to Du Forum on September 30, in what is likely to be among the capital’s first big concerts of the 2016/17 performance calendar.

Despite previous concerts in other emirates — including a historic show at Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in 2011, and most recently at Sharjah’s Al Majaz Amphitheatre in November — the performance will mark Yanni’s first concert in Abu Dhabi.

The 61-year-old artist will perform alongside a 15-piece orchestra, presenting works from his latest album Sensuous Chill, at the concert from promoters Flash Entertainment.

Yanni has proved one of the world’s most enduring crossover stars, clocking reported album sales of more than 25 million and playing to more than five million people on five continents. Drawing on traditions from across the globe, his largely instrumental music blends elements of classical and world with rock and contemporary sounds, and popularised the use of synthesisers alongside a live orchestra.

Tickets for the Abu Dhabi concert start at Dh495. Exclusive pre-sale tickets go on sale on Monday May 30, at noon, before general sale opens 24 hours later.
