An eye-dazzling diamond-covered guitar valued at more than $2 million (Dh7.3 million) is now on display in Abu Dhabi.

The shamelessly garish instrument — a Gibson SG encrusted with 11,441 pieces of diamond and 1.6kg of white gold — has been certified by the Guinness Book of Records as the “most valuable” six string on the planet.

It was unveiled at Abu Dhabi’s Marina Mall on October 27, and will be on display to shoppers until November 11.

The visit marks the piece’s first appearance in the region, following earlier shows in the USA, China, Germany and Italy.

Dubbed the Eden of Coronet, the 400 carat piece took 700 days for a team of 68 artisans to complete.

Why, you might quite rightly ask?

To sell more jewels, of course — the guitar is a publicity stunt by UAE-based Lifestyle Fine Jewellery, and international parent company Aaron Shum Jewellery.

It’s unclear if the guitar has ever been played.
