It’s not every day that one of the world’s greatest tennis player’s comes face to face with one of the world’s greatest birds of prey. But that’s exactly what happened on February 27, 2006. Andre Agassi was in town for the Dubai Tennis Championships when he meet, DJ, a three-year old falcon. Agassi went out in the second round of the tournament that was won by Rafael Nadal and retired from tennis that same year.
Falconry, meanwhile, was inscribed on Unesco’s representative list of “intangible cultural heritage of humanity” in 2011. This weekend the International Festival of Falconry takes place in Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Park – so why not head down and you might come face to face with you own DJ?
