1 Old meets new
If you want to stick with a neutral colour scheme, but are looking for something a little bit different, check out this grey Persian Cowhide Rug by Young & Battaglia. It’s an unexpected mixture of two very distinct and seemingly incongruous carpet styles – the traditional Persian variety and more modern animal hide rugs. It’s a little surreal, but also hypoallergenic, washable and non-slip.

3 Masterpiece mat
Tidal is the latest creation by famed architect David Rockwell for The Rug Company. The abstract design takes its inspiration from nature and is hand knotted by artisans in Nepal, using fibres drawn from the bamboo plant. “Tidal is a painterly and rich expression of natural light,” says Rockwell. “Inspired by how sunlight evokes emotions and shapes an environment, Tidal beautifully captures the shimmering reflection across the surface of a bay.”
