Former Pilipinas Got Talent victor Marcelito Pomoy has a new title in his sights: the first foreign winner of America's Got Talent: The Champions. The Filipino singer performed for the final time this week on the reality TV show, delivering Beauty and the Beast in his signature dual-voice style. The performance, once again, had the live audience on their feet.
While judges Howie Mandel, Alesha Dixon and Heidi Klum praised him on the performance, Simon Cowell had some criticism.
"You're a very nice, very talented guy [I've] got to tell you, you really, really are. And this is even better than the last performance you did – much, much better. However, if it was my choice – on a night like this – I would have done something less predictable," Cowell said.
To which Dixon responded, "How is that predictable?"
The clip of his performance was uploaded to YouTube on Sunday, February 9 and has already been viewed more than six million times.
Some comments by viewers were quick to point out how Cowell's comments seemed unfair as it was the show who selected the song that he would perform. This was also confirmed by Pomoy in a video on his official YouTube page.
Since his appearance on the American reality talent show, the 35-year-old has been one of the favourites to win. His three performances have garnered more than 40 million views collectively. He also has support from magician Shim Lim, who won the first America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2019.
Lim has praised the Filipino singer on his Instagram account and told him he was a “super big fan” with Pomoy also returning the compliment.
Even though the show has been pre-taped, the final result of the competition will be revealed on Monday, February 17.
