Khan greeted his fans with open arms, while Letterman went for a more reserved wave.

He also posted a video showing just how big the gathered crowd was, with the message: "Thank u all for spending your Eid with me... May God bless u all with health and happiness. #EidMubarak"

On May 17, Khan thanked Letterman for interviewing him in a touching Twitter post.

"Thanks for your generosity," Khan wrote, "[I] had too much fun being interviewed. Not because it was about me but because you were kind enough to make me feel I can be me."

"You are an inspiration, sir," the Bollywood superstar closed the Tweet with.

Letterman is best known for hosting the Late Show with David Letterman, which he retired from in May 2015 after 6,080 episodes.

He has since moved onto My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman, a Netflix interview show which debuted in 2018 with former US President Barack Obama.

Season two released on May 31, featuring interviews with Kanye West, Ellen DeGeneres, Tiffany Haddish, Lewis Hamilton and Melinda Gates.

It is expected that Khan will feature on the show's third season.
