Some Netflix users in the UAE received notifications that the streaming service's monthly price is increasing from April 21, 2019.

A user on the basic plan received an email notification today that their monthly payment will be increased from $7.99 to $8.99 (from Dh29 to Dh33). The email notifying the user of the price hike came from Netflix's official distribution email, info@mailer.netflix.com.

The email had this to say about why the increase is happening now: "Why? We’re hard at work improving Netflix so that you can have even more great TV shows and movies to enjoy."

The company is expected to spend around $15 billion on content in 2019: and they've said they'll put more and more focus on original content this year.

Netflix has not officially announced the increase in prices, however after users in the UK noticed different prices based on which browser or device they tried to access the service on, the company told Metro that it was "testing slightly different prices to better understand how members value Netflix.

"Not everyone will see this test and we may never roll out these specific prices beyond this test," they added.

Currently, the prices in the UAE are Dh29 for the basic one screen standard definition subscription, Dh39 for two screens at a time and HD and Dh56 for four screens and Ultra HD.

We are not yet sure what the price increases on the other plans will be, or if there will be increases at all - we have reached out to Netflix for comment.
