National Geographic Abu Dhabi (NGAD) has announced the launch of the 8th edition of Moments, its annual regional photography competition designed to nurture the talent of aspiring photographers from around the Arab world, this year with the theme of Stories of People of the Arab World.

The competition is one of the largest in the region, and typically attracts over 19,000 entries from across the Middle East and North Africa. The Grand Prize winner will have his/her photograph printed in National Geographic Arabic and earn the trip of a lifetime, a 10-day expedition to Italy, worth $10,000 (Dh36,700) where they will be mentored by National Geographic expert photographers, in addition to $10,000 photography equipment courtesy of Nikon.

The judging panel will feature award-winning Saudi photographer and NatGeo regular Tasneem Sultan, and Hussam R. Abdulqader, CMO at Almarai, which is sponsoring the competition for the fifth year.

Moments makes up part of National Geographic Abu Dhabi's broader platform to promote and nurture local talents and help them launch their careers. The platform also features reality TV show I am a NatGeo Photographer and the newly launched I Am a NatGeo Junior Photographer, both locally produced shows that run on National Geographic Abu Dhabi and National Geographic Kids Abu Dhabi channels respectively.

Sanjay Raina, GM and SVP of NatGeo parent Fox Networks Groups, commented: "For 130 years, National Geographic has ignited the explorer in all people through photography and storytelling. For the Moments competition, we encourage photographers from across the Arab World to show us their world and share with us their untold stories through the lens of their camera."

Submissions for this year's competition are being accepted now. For more on the competition and previous year winners, please visit www.natgeo-moments.com.
