When it was time to accept her first Golden Globe Award, there was one person Emma Corrin had to pay tribute to.

The British actress delivered a moving ode to Princess Diana as she won Best Actress in a Drama TV Series on Sunday, for her performance as the late royal in The Crown.

“Most of all, thank you so much to Diana,” Corrin, 25, said, looking to the sky, as she remotely accepted the accolade from the UK.

“You have taught me compassion and empathy beyond any measure that I could ever imagine, and on behalf of everyone who remembers you so fondly and passionately, thank you.”

The breakout star gave a striking portrayal of Princess Diana in season four of Netflix's royal biopic series, with the season covering her marriage to Prince Charles as well as the souring of their relationship.

"Thank you to my Prince Charming, Josh [O'Connor], I could not have done this without you," Corrin added in a shoutout to her co-star.

Corrin beat Olivia Colman, who plays Queen Elizabeth II in the show's third and fourth seasons, for the award, as well as Laura Linney, Sarah Paulson and Jodie Comer.

She was also not the only star from the acclaimed show to take home a trophy on the night.

O'Connor, who portrays Prince Charles opposite Corrin, scored Best Actor in a Drama TV Series, while The Crown also scooped Best Drama TV Series overall, beating out Lovecraft Country, The Mandalorian, Ozark and Ratched.

O'Connor, 30, described his win as "quite a surprise", adding he "had the time of my life making this show".

"To Emma Corrin, you're extraordinary, talented, funny and a brilliant player of rock paper scissors," he said in his virtual acceptance speech. "I love you to bits."

The actor also encouraged viewers to prioritise mental health during the ongoing pandemic.

"I'm very lucky to be able to work in this period and there are so many people who are unable to work and are alone and isolated," O'Connor said. "And I hope that we can all collectively put mental health at the forefront of our mind. Thank you so much."

In The Crown's fourth award of the night, Gillian Anderson was awarded Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Supporting Role for her portrayal of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

The veteran actress beat out her co-star Helena Bonham Carter, who plays Princess Margaret, for the accolade.

The Crown, which debuted in 2016, traces the long reign of Queen Elizabeth II, which began in 1952. It has received a number of awards at Golden Globes past, including Best Actress for Claire Foy, who played the monarch in seasons one and two.
