Another performance, another viral moment.
Marcelito Pomoy, who won Pilipinas Got Talent in 2011, took to the stage to perform in the semi-finals of America's Got Talent: The Champions. After wowing the judges and audience with a cover of Celine Dion and Andrea Bocelli's The Prayer in the first round, he took on another Bocelli classic, this time singing Con Te Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye).
The video, uploaded to YouTube on Monday, February 3, already has almost 8 million views. His performance earned another standing ovation after singing in dual voices as both a male tenor and a female soprano and hitting an impressive high note at the end.
It also earned him praise from almost all of the judges.
"I gotta say that I believe that you have the best shot of winning this whole thing," said Howie Mandal, while Alesha Dixon called his song choice "absolutely brilliant."
Heidi Klum said that she had been waiting all day for him to perform: "For you, you are my favourite. I mean, it just blows my mind."
However, Simon Cowell was slightly more critical of the 35-year-old, saying that he had to step up his game going forward.
“There is no denying you have a unique and special talent but if you make the finals, I think you’ve got to take a bigger risk because now the surprise is over,” he said. “But I do believe with the gift you’ve got, you have a massive career in front of you.”
The superfans of the show voted the Filipino singer onto the grand finals where he will sing one more time on Monday, February 10 with the winner crowned on Monday, February 17.
