14 new TV shows and seasons coming to Netflix in 2020: 'Queen Sono', 'Money Heist' and more

A year of new and returning Netflix series to binge on from the comfort of your sofa awaits

New year, new Netflix binges. From drama and reality TV to comedies and thrillers, a wide variety of new television is coming to the streaming site soon, featuring a flock of big names, from Millie Bobby Brown to Ross Lynch, Alison Brie and more.

We told you what to watch before 2019 ends, here's what to expect in 2020.

1. 'Spinning Out'

When: Wednesday, January 1

Starring: Kaya Scodelario, Willow Shields and Sarah Wright

The new drama explores the life of a figure-skater trying to pursue her Olympic dreams, while struggling with love, family and mental health.

2. 'The Circle'

When: Wednesday, January 1

Starring: Michelle Buteau

Based in the US, the new reality TV series is a social experiment and competition where players befriend, flirt and catfish each other for the grand prize of $100,000 (Dh367,000).

3. 'Anne with an E' (season 3)

When: Friday, January 3

Starring: Amybeth McNulty and Lucas Jade Zumann

The coming-of-age story, and re-imagining of L M Montgomery's classic novels Anne of Green Gables, is set in the 19th Century and follows the adventures of orphan, Anne, as she slowly fits into a new home.

4. 'Dracula'

When: Saturday, January 4

Starring: Claes Bang, John Heffernan and Dolly Wells

The three-episode series is based on Bram Stoker's well-known Gothic novel, but with a new focus on Dracula's vulnerability, coming from the makers of Doctor Who and Sherlock, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat.

5. 'Sex Education' (season 2)

When: Friday, January 17

Starring: Gillian Anderson, Emma Mackey and Asa Butterfield

The British teen comedy-drama returns for its second season, continuing to explore the life of Otis, an awkward and insecure character, and his friendships with Eric and Maeve, as they navigate the challenges that come with being teenagers.

6. 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' (season 3)

When: Friday, January 24

Starring: Kiernan Shipka, Ross Lynch and Miranda Otto

The horror fiction, and adaptation of the Archie comic and 90s and 00s series, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, is returning for its much-awaited third season by developer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, famous for his work on Glee and Riverdale. The dark coming-of-age story follows secret-witch Sabrina Spellmen as she struggles to balance between her two lives, from teenage heart-break to fighting evil.

7. 'BoJack Horseman' (season 6)

When: Friday, January 31

Starring: Will Arnett, Aaron Paul and Alison Brie

The popular Netflix animated tragicomedy tells the story of BoJack Horseman, as he deals with depression, trauma, addiction and self-destructive behaviour, and is coming to an end with the second part of its sixth season.

8. 'Narcos: Mexico' (season 2)

When: Thursday, February 13

Starring: Diego Luna and Michael Peña

The second season of the crime web drama, and companion series to the famous series Narcos, discusses the origins of the modern war on narcotics, based in the 1980s.

9. 'Cable Girls' (Las Chicas Del Cable, season 5)

When: Friday, February 14

Starring: Ana Fernandez Garcia, Nadia de Santiago, Blanca Suarez and Maggie Civantos

The Spanish drama is set in the 1920s, and tells the story of four young women working for a telecommunications company, with differing relationship to their families, their jobs and their memories. The first part of the fifth, and final, season of the series continues to explore the hardships of working women.

10. 'Queen Sono'

When: Friday, February 28

Starring: Pearl Thusi and Vuyo Dabula

Neflix's first African original series and upcoming South African crime drama, created by Kagiso Lediga, is centred around secret agent, Queen Sono, as she fights crime while dealing with crises in her personal life.

11. 'Money Heist' (La Casa de Papel, season 4)

When: Friday, April 3

Starring: Ursula Corbero, Alvaro Morte and Itziar Ituño

The popular drama, returning for its fourth season, is centred around the biggest heist in recorded history, under the mastermind plans of The Professor, alongside a group of robbers with nothing to lose.

12. 'The Society' (season 2)

When: May – exact date TBC

Starring: Kathryn Newton and Alex Fitzalan

Renewed for its second season, the teen drama explores the lives of high school students who must form their own society to survive, after the rest of their town mysteriously vanishes.

13. 'Stranger Things' (season 4)

When: October – exact date TBC

Starring: Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour and Noah Schnapp

The highly-demanded science fiction horror, created by the Duffer Brothers, comes back for its fourth season. It is set in the 1980s in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, and follows Eleven, a young psychokinetic girl, and her interactions with the paranormal and supernatural.

14. 'Dear White People' (season 4)

When: Date TBC

Starring: Logan Browning and Brandon P Bell

The fourth volume of the comedy-drama continues to explore the struggles of black students at an Ivy League college, touching on issues of modern racism.
