He may have passed away a decade ago, but Swedish crime author Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy continues to play a major influence on Swedish crime fiction.

During Friday evening’s Swedish Noir session at the Abu Dhabi Book International Book Fair, fellow compatriots and crime authors Kristina Ohlsson and Marie Hermanson paid tribute to Larsson for exposing readers to the Scandi-Crime genre.

“What I enjoy about his books is that they are essentially fairy tales for grown-ups,” remarked Ohlsson.

“His stories were way out there and to sustain the interested over hundreds of pages takes a lot of skill.”

Hermanson said you could tell, through the barreling plot, that Larsson was enjoying the writing process.

“It moved at such a pace and you get the feeling that he had a lot of joy writing these books,” she said.

The Abu Dhabi Dhabi International Book Fair runs until Monday at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center. For details go to www.adbookfair.com
