ABU DHABI // A clatter of bin lids signalled the beginning of SummerFest Abu Dhabi yesterday, as the internationally renowned stage production Stomp took to the stage at Emirates Palace.
Performers used sinks, Zippo lighters, water cooler bottles, bin lids and even plastic bags as musical instruments, dancing with everything from shopping trolleys to brooms.
Stomp, in its 22nd year, has been seen by 15 million people across 51 countries.
Yesterday's show marked the start of 52 days of concerts and shows taking place as part of SummerFest Abu Dhabi.
Adnec also began its SummerFest programme of children's productions yesterday with a production called Lazy Town Live on Stage, running until July 3. Adnec will also host: Bananas in Pyjamas (July 4-9), Sesame Street (July 10-13 and July 15-19), Ben 10 (July 20-21 and July 23-27), Freej (July 28-30 and August 1-4), Scooby Doo (August 5-12) and Ben 10 Ultimate Challenge (August 14-17).
The exhibition centre has amusement rides, including a roller coaster and merry-go-round, face painting and balloon animals. Meanwhile, children can build the Abu Dhabi skyline at a Lego zone or take on a three-storey obstacle course featuring rock climbing walls, zip lines and a maze.
Adnec will open from 3pm, except during Ramadan, when its doors will open after iftar, at 8.30pm on weeknights and 7.30pm on weekends.
Stomp will perform at Emirates Palace hotel today and tomorrow. Performances begin at 7pm. There will be an extra matinee show today at 3pm. Tickets begin from Dh150 from www.ticketmaster.ae. Visit summerfestabudhabi.ae for more information.
