Sonam Kapoor’s Khubsoorat to roll in August
The cameras will start rolling for the remake of the movie Khubsoorat in August, announced the film’s lead actress Sonam Kapoor. The 1980 drama, which was directed by Hrishikesh Mukerjee and won a Filmfare award for Best Film that year, focused on the romance between a happy-go-lucky girl (played by Rekha) and a serious doctor (Rakesh Roshan). “Although the story has completely changed in this remake, the whole point is to capture the spirit of the characters,” said Kapoor. “Rekha did it so beautifully. If I can do even 10 per cent of what she’s done, that would be great.” The 27-year-old star added: “I hope to make the character more current, how young girls are right now – -=vibrant.” – IANS
Aishwarya Arjun faints on film set in Trichy
The actress Aishwarya Arjun fainted on the movie set of her forthcoming Tamil romantic comedy Pattathu Yaanai on Sunday because of the hot weather in Trichy, a city in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. A production source said: “We were shooting outdoors in Trichy in extremely hot conditions. Aishwarya couldn’t handle the heat and fainted. She was given medical attention and we have requested that she rests for a while.” Directed by Boopathy Pandian, Pattathu Yaanai also features Vishal Krishna and Mano Bala. Arjun, the daughter of the Tamil actor Arjun Sarja, is making her debut in the movie, which is produced by S Michael Rayappan. The film features music by S?S Thaman. – IANS
Miss India sets her sights on Bollywood
Miss India 2013 Navneet Kaur Dhillon, who will represent India at the Miss World beauty pageant later this year, says she already has her eyes set on Bollywood. “Right now, Miss World is my aim. But definitely Bollywood is my next destination,” said the 20-year-old. The Miss World 2013 contest will be held on September 28 in Indonesia. “It has been 12 years since we won the Miss World crown [the beauty queen-turned-Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, 2000]. So it is my responsibility to bring it back,” said Dhillon. Other previous pageant winners who went on to become Bollywood stars include Zeenat Aman (1970), Juhi Chawla (1984), Sushmita Sen (1994), Aishwarya Rai (1994), Gul Panag (1999), Dia Mirza (second runner-up, 2000) and Lara Dutta (2000). – IANS
Debutant to play lead in Srinivasa Ramanujan biopic
The newcomer actor Abhay, the grandson of the actors Gemini Ganeshan and Savithri, has been chosen to play the role of the Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan in the forthcoming -biopic Ramanujan. The film will also feature the southern Indian actress Bhama, who will play Ramanujan’s wife, and Suhasini Maniratnam, who will play his mother. According to a production statement, the film is being simultaneously filmed in Tamil and English. Ramanujan was known for his contributions to mathematical analysis, living in India with no access to the larger mathematical community and developing his own research in isolation. He died in 1920 at the age of 32. The film, to be directed by Gnana Rajasekaran, will begin shooting next month. – IANS
