Sonam Kapoor on red carpet high in Cannes

Sonam Kapoor likens red carpets to a wedding. “It is strange but every time I am on the red carpet, I feel like I’m getting married,” she said at the Cannes Film Festival. Kapoor says she treats the red carpet like a stage: “It depends on what character I want to be, so it is a bit like choosing your roles.” Kapoor is in Cannes as an ambassador for L’Oréal. She has no films screening at the festival but is currently working on three, “Ranjhana, which translates as Romeo. Then there is a biopic about an athlete, and a romantic comedy”, she said. – AP

Rishi Kapoor announces seven new films

Rishi Kapoor is working hard, which is just the way he likes it. The veteran actor said he has seven films to be released this year. “I am looking forward to lot of films this year. I have seven releases. Chashme Buddoor just released, followed by Aurangzeb. And then I have five more: D-Day; two to be directed under the Yash Raj Films banner; and Kaanch and Besharam [which also stars his son Ranbir and wife Neetu]. These are very interesting roles and films,” said the 60-year-old actor. “I’m very passionate about my work. Work gives me great enjoyment.” – IANS

Anurag Kashyap gets French honour

Anurag Kashyap will receive the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters for his efforts in promoting Indian cinema across the globe. The filmmaker will have the French honour conferred today at a ceremony at the Cannes film festival. Kashyap’s new film Ugly premiered at the festival’s Directors’ Fortnight section last weekend. Freida Pinto wears Indian designer at Cannes

The Indian designer Sanchita Ajjampur is happy that Freida Pinto’s “unconventional ensemble” was well received at the Cannes Film Festival. The actress walked the red carpet at the premiere of Jeune & Jolie.“We wanted to do something big,” Ajjampur said, adding that she aimed to create an outfit that was immediately arresting. “The concept was that of a gilded web holding the dress together, with embellished dragon flies trapped in it. Dragon-fly hair accessories finished the look, creating a surreal, fantasy-like appeal.” – IANS

Varun and David Dhawan work together on movie

Varun Dhawan says he’s looking forward to shooting Main Tera Hero, a new film that will be directed by his father David Dhawan. The film is the actor’s second outing after his debut in 2012’s Student of the Year. “It is a different ball game,” explained the 26-year-old star. “When we are on the set, my father is a different kind of task master. I don’t see him as my father and he does not see me as his son. I need to perform and there are no two ways about that.” Main Tera Hero is a Hindi remake of the 2011 Telugu movie Kandireega. – IANS
