Shah Rukh Khan jokes he’ll wear a mask to sneak by stadium ban

Shah Rukh Khan jokes that he will wear a mask and sneak into a Mumbai stadium to watch his cricket team play in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last year, the actor was banned from the stadium for five years after he was involved in a scuffle with security after an IPL match. He told reporters on Monday: “I don’t want to sound politically incorrect but what will they do if I enter the stadium? Shoot me?” Referring to the stadium brawl, Khan said he lost his temper when he saw security guards pushing his children. Khan’s team, the Kolkata Knight Riders, is the defending champion of the IPL but has been struggling this year. The team has lost seven of its 11 games so far. – AP

Manish Paul wins top TV award

The actor Manish Paul saw off stiff competition from Bollywood royalty to walk away with the Best Actor award at the 12th Indian Telly Awards. Paul was up against Amitabh Bachchan for Kaun Banega Crorepati, Salman Khan for Bigg Boss and Aamir Khan for Satyamev Jayate, but still got the most votes from television viewers. Paul has acquired a huge following as the host of shows such as Dance India Dance, Li’l Masters and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5. After the ceremony, Paul said: “Being nominated with Mr Bachchan, Aamir and Salman was a big deal but winning is like the icing on the cake. I just want to thank my audience for making me the winner.” Meanwhile, Paul is preparing to make his big-screen debut with the first-time director Saurabh Verma’s movie Mickey Virus. – IANS

Sonam Kapoor plans to wear at least one Indian outfit at Cannes

In what will be her third appearance at the Cannes International Film Festival, the actress Sonam Kapoor says she will be sporting clothes with a distinctly Indian feel. “I always walk two red carpets for Cannes and make it a point to wear an Indian outfit on at least one occasion,” Kapoor told reporters. “I had previously worn Masaba Gupta and Anamika. I will wear an Indian outfit, for sure, for one or both the red carpet events.” Her fellow stars Freida Pinto and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will also walk the red carpet at Cannes this year. But Kapoor said there would be no one-upmanship between them. “All three of us represent India and we will not compete on who looks better among us,” said the 27-year-old star. – IANS
