A Saudi Arabia camel festival has achieved its second Guinness World Record this week. Not only is the Crown Prince Camel Festival the biggest of its kind in the world, it’s now also home to the world’s biggest camel model.

Standing at 4.65 metres high and 10 metres wide, the statue was unveiled at this year's event in front of Taif Governor Saad Al-Maimouni and Guinness World Record representative Glenn Pollard. The model stands proud in King Faisal Park, inside Taif's camel village and is lit up by 51,000 lights.

The Crown Prince Camel Festival aims to promote the cultural importance of camels, as well as celebrating the animals. Its competitions are known to be the largest in the region, with prizes worth up to SR53 million (Dh51.9 million).

The festival is backed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and attracts people from across Saudi Arabia and around the Gulf.

The first edition of the festival, which took place in September 2018, was named as the world’s biggest camel festival, with more than 11,000 camels participating in 787 rounds of competition.
