Italian designer Sara Battaglia has once again teamed up with storied fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo, on a collection of bags for pre-fall 2017.

Known for her exuberant designs, flaunting fringes and colourful stripes, Battaglia has designed six different handbag models for the brand, which pay homage to the house’s signature zigzag and “Gancio” motifs. Monochrome pairings and toned-down neutrals are on offer, as well as a colour combination featuring deep burgundy, red-orange and yellow. Silhouettes range from stylish bucket bags to practical totes and versatile cross-body bags. The zigzag patterns peak with striking scalloped edges. The bags range in price from Dh5,325 to Dh7,715 and are available both in Salvatore Ferragamo boutiques and online.

This marks the designer’s second collaboration with Salvatore Ferragamo — she created a capsule leather goods collection with the brand last year. “We are delighted to be presenting this new capsule collection with Sara Battaglia,” says James Ferragamo, women’s leather product director for the brand. “The success of last year’s collaboration is testament to the principles we and Sara share, and having been keen to explore new ways to push craftsmanship and innovation, the second collection feels even more daring in its vibrancy, quality and contemporary spirit.”

A few weeks ago, Battaglia was in Dubai with Lisa Aiken, retail fashion director at luxury e-tailer Net-a-Porter. This season, Battaglia launched her debut womenswear line with Net-a-Porter. The pleated trousers, high-waisted flares, ruffled blouses and bell-sleeved tops mirror the designer's penchant for combining rainbow tones with on-trend silhouettes.

At a panel discussion that took place in Dubai Design District (D3), Aiken revealed that she first came across Battaglia’s handbag brand on social media. “She had a very large following early on,” she said. Battaglia spoke about the importance of working with digital influencers, claiming that they can really help direct traffic to brands’ social media pages. One of her first recollections of seeing her social media following surge, was when she woke up to 800 new followers after an influencer had posted an image of one of her bags.
