Rihanna was among 300 people evacuated from a hotel after an early-morning fire in a lift shaft on Wednesday. The singer confirmed the incident on Twitter, posting a picture of a fire engine and the words: "Roamin the streets since 6am!" The London Fire Brigade says the fire took place at the Corinthia Hotel and there were no injuries. Rihanna performed last week at the Hackney Weekend concert in London. * AP

Adele pregnant with first child

Adele is expecting a child with her boyfriend Simon Konecki. The message was posted on the 24-year-old singer's website, which crashed due to a large amount of traffic. "I'm delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together. I wanted you to hear the news direct from me. Obviously we're over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time," she wrote. * AP

Katie Holmes seeks sole custody of Suri

After Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes announced on Friday they were calling it quits five years into their marriage, People magazine reports Holmes is seeking sole custody of their six-year-old daughter, Suri. "Tom is deeply saddened," Cruise's representative said, confirming it was Holmes who filed divorce papers in New York, not the actor. Cruise, who turns 50 on Tuesday, and Holmes, 33, were last photographed together on June 18 in Reykjavik, Iceland, where Cruise was shooting a film. Sources told the celebrity website TMZ that Holmes split with Cruise due to the latter's ties to Scientology, "fearing that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church".

Abu Dhabi fest call for entries

The Abu Dhabi Film Festival is now accepting entries for its sixth edition, to be held from October 11 to 20. Narrative and documentary feature-length and short films will screen in a variety of competitive and non-competitive sections. The deadline is July 15. The FX network says Thursday's US debut of Charlie Sheen's new sitcom, Anger Management, was the most-watched series premiere in the network's history, drawing 5.5 million viewers. * AP

Flaming Lips break 24-hour record for live shows

The Flaming Lips set a new Guinness World Record for most live shows in a 24-hour period, finishing off their feat of eight performances on Thursday night in New Orleans. Their journey started a day earlier in Memphis. The band's lead singer Wayne Coyne called the record "an absurd joy". * AP
