Richa Chadda wins dream role

Richa Chadda has secured a part in the director Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romcom Ram Leela. “I can’t talk much about the film but I feel people spend their whole life waiting to work with Sanjay’s film and I got to work with him in such an initial stage of my career,” said the 28-year-old Gangs of Wassepur star. “I am lucky and happy that people have accepted me.” – IANS

Prithviraj and Shah Rukh Khan to star in Farah Khan’s Happy New Year

Fresh from receiving critical acclaim for his role in Aurangzeb, the southern Indian actor Prithviraj Sukumaran is to try his hand at comedy with Farah Khan’s Happy New Year, which also stars Shah Rukh Khan. “Audiences and critics felt I played my part well and this was a huge achievement,” said Sukumaran, who made his Bollywood debut in Aiyyaa. “Now for the first time in Hindi cinema, I will be seen in a comedy film.” The film will begin shooting in September. – IANS

R&B singer Aaradhna Patel sweeps Pacific Music Awards

The New Zealander Aaradhna Patel, whose father is from the state of Gujarat in India, has scooped six awards at this year’s Pacific Music Awards. The 29-year-old R&B singer won the most awards in a single night in the event’s nine-year history. She won Best Female Artist, Best Pacific Urban Artist, Best Song, Best Music Album, Best Video for her clip to the hit song Lorena Bobbitt and the Radio Airplay Award for the song Wake Up. Her highly acclaimed album Treble & Reverb was released in November last year. – IANS

Paresh Rawal to headline Chupke Chupke

The filmmaker Umesh Shukla has cast Paresh Rawal to reprise Om Prakash’s role in the remake of the cult classic movie Chupke Chupke. Shukla and Rawal have previously worked together on the 2012 courtroom comedy Oh My God. “Paresh is a wonderful actor and I share a good bond with him. It will be fun to work with him again,” said Shukla. The 1975 comedy Chupke Chupke, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, featured Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Sharmila Tagore in the lead roles. “We have made changes to the script; it’s not a remake – it’s an adaptation,” said Shukla. The rest of the cast is yet to be decided. – IANS
