Before my three-month experiment with the Lash Perfect Russian Layering technique at Sisters Beauty Lounge, I’d rarely given my lashes much thought.
But with these super-light extensions, thick and curvy like a plastic doll’s, my slight lashes take on a glamorous life of their own. They become The Lashes.
The Lashes spark conversations. One friend wryly jests that they are grazing my eyebrows (they do sometimes brush the lens of my glasses). My colleague three desks down exclaims, “I can see them from here!”
The Lashes take time – at least 2.5 hours for the initial application (Dh750), on your back with your lids gently taped up, and follow-up visits of more than an hour once every two weeks (Dh350).
The Lashes need an expert hand to apply. Be sure you trust the person who glues them onto your natural lashes. They also take a lot of care and you have to avoid getting them wet for 24 hours after each application. You can buy a kit for Dh350 with special extension mascara and a non-oil-based eye make-up remover, which is recommended.
You need to be gentle when washing around them, which is when I found mine coming off gradually after the first week.
The Lashes will love you and leave you. I felt deprived when they were gone. My own lashes not only felt shorter, they were shorter, because The Lashes broke them down. After a few weeks they got back to normal.
They are high-maintenance, but for a special occasion I’d be willing to take The Lashes back.
