The actor Raj Kundra has decided to stop tweeting on behalf of his one-month-old son Viaan after allegations from Indian tabloids and celebrity websites that he and his wife Shilpa Shetty are seeking publicity through their newborn child. "Due to inconsequential articles claiming my mum @TheShilpaShetty is seeking publicity, I have decided to stop tweeting," read a message posted on @ViaanRajKundra. "This is my official Twitter handle set up by my father which I will use when I am old enough. Thank you all for your love and wishes." Created on June 6, the account has gathered close to 3,500 followers. * IANS

Zanjeer remake to star Priyanka Chopra

The filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia just wrapped up the first shooting schedule of his remake of the 1973 film Zanjeer and announced that the actress Priyanka Chopra will join the production in September, to co-star alongside the lead actor Ram Charan Teja. "We have shot 40 per cent of the film in Mumbai. Priyanka will join us and the film should be done by November," Lakhia said. The 1973 film launched the careers of Bollywood's royal couple Jaya and Amitabh Bachchan - and the latter is rumoured to make a cameo in Lakhia's remake. Amit Mehra, the son of the original film's director Prakash, is producing the film. * IANS

Farhan Akhtar to take time off

The actor and director Farhan Akhtar, who hosted the recent International Indian Film Academy Awards and won the best supporting actor award for Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, has announced he is taking time off from film-related projects. "A big thank you to all who cheered [the IIFA co-host] Shahid Kapoor and me on. We're happy to have entertained you. Until the next time. And now, it's finally time for a long overdue vacation," Akhtar said in a statement. "I'll be flying under the radar in the next months and make contact when I return." He recently finished filming the biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, where he plays the lead role of the Indian athlete Milkha Singh. Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and co-starring Sonam Kapoor, the film was shot in India, Tokyo, Melbourne and Rome. * IANS

New films arrive in Indian cinemas

The filmmaker Rajesh Mapuskar's debut movie Ferrari Ki Sawaari, featuring Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Vidya Balan and the child actor Ritwik Sahore, tells the tale of a little boy obsessed with cricket and who dreams of one day playing the sport. A pivotal scene in the film was shot at Lord's Cricket Ground in London. The film opens in UAE cinemas today. Also premiering in India is the film Chakradhaar, produced by Bharat Anand and directed by Shakur Sir. Revolving around the character of a simple, righteous boy who grows up to become a local goon, the movie stars the newcomer Abhishek Anand, Urvashi Sharma and Vidya Malvade. Another new title arriving in Indian cinemas is the martial arts action film Qasam Se Qasam Se, starring Faith Wladyka, Rakhi Sawant and Satish Kaushik. * IANS
