Producers confirm Star Trek Beyond will be filmed in Dubai
As revealed by The National in April, the third instalment of the rebooted Star Trek franchise will shoot in Dubai, producers have confirmed.
Speaking in an interview with Slashfilm that was published this week, Skydance Productions head David Ellisson said “We start shooting in 10 days and we’re shooting in Vancouver and Dubai.”
Ellisson did not give a timescale for the Dubai shoot, although latest information suggests the crew will be visiting in August, and using Dubai as the scene for a “vertical” alien city the crew stumble across on their quest to split infinitives by “Boldly going where no man has gone before” – a line that we understood has been grammatically corrected in Simon Pegg’s latest script to “To go boldly where no one has gone before”.
The production company Skydance was founded in 2010, having raised $350 million (Dh1.3 billion) in capital, to co-produce films with Paramount pictures. It is already behind hits such as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and Terminator: Genisys.
Skydance was unavailable for comment when contacted by The National.
Star Trek director Jusin Lin (Fast and Furious 6) confirmed in a tweet that the third film in the rebooted franchise will be titled Star Trek Beyond. The tweet also included a sneak preview of the new Star Fleet uniform.
