Prepare for the return of The Powerpuff Girls

The three crime-fighting tots arguably are some of Cartoon Network’s most popular characters – Delta airlines painted them on the wing of one of its 737s. Even Christian Bale is a fan.

Cartoon Network announced on Monday that it is relaunching The Powerpuff Girls, the 1998 show created by Craig McCracken, in 2016. It was a series about three little impossibly cute superhero kindergarteners – Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup – who were created when their scientist dad, Professor Utonium, was tinkering in his lab trying to create “the perfect little girls”.

The Powerpuff Girls ran for 78 episodes, won two Emmys and made more than US$2.5 billion (Dh9.2bn) in retail sales. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup also starred in an animated feature film in 2002 and were seen on television in a special in January this year.
