Orphans visiting Abu Dhabi were given a lesson in ice skating from squirrels, rabbits, wolves and other woodland creatures from the Russian cartoon Masha and The Bear.

The cast of Masha and the Bear on Ice laced up their skates last Thursday for the charity event at Zayed Sports City as part of the UAE's Year of Giving.

Their visit to the capital included a stop at the Martyrs’ Memorial, Wahat Al Karama, and the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

The trip around the capital was organised for 50 orphans by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation in Dubai.

“Apart from bringing the children joy and happiness, the trip will go a long way towards strengthening their loyalty and sense of belonging to their country, and boosting their pride in the achievements of our wise leadership,” said Tayeb Al-Rais, the secretary general of the Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, in a statement.
