'Phantom of The Opera' is adding more shows to its Dubai run
The Andrew Lloyd Webber classic is putting on eight more performances during its Middle East debut
The music of the night will go on a little longer when The Phantom of the Opera arrives in the UAE.
The long-running musical, which will make its Middle East debut later this year, has extended its run at Dubai Opera by a week, organisers have announced.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber-composed production will now host performances between October 16 and November 6, with more eight shows added to the bill in total. The original run was due to close on October 30.
Tickets for the extra performances are on sale now, with prices starting from Dh250. Matinee performances will be held on Fridays and Saturdays, with evening performances starting at 8pm.
“We are honoured to be able to host one of the world’s most iconic musicals at Dubai Opera and to be able to give audiences from across the region a chance to see the phenomenon first-hand," said Dubai Opera's chief executive Jasper Hope. "We’re delighted that this extension to the run will now give more people the opportunity to experience this out-of-this-world production."
Widely renowned as the world's most popular musical, The Phantom of the Opera is the longest-running show in Broadway history, with several Tony Awards and Olivier Awards to its name.
Adapted from Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel of the same name, The Phantom of the Opera, which first opened in London’s West End in 1986, tells the story of a disfigured musical genius who lurks in the depths of the Paris Opera House and falls in love with a beautiful young soprano called Christine. The musical features classics songs, such as Think of Me and The Music of the Night.
For the Dubai production, 130 cast, crew and orchestra members will make their way to the UAE, with the lead role performed by Jonathan Roxmouth, a South African actor who has previously portrayed the Phantom in Singapore and the Philippines.
