One of the most popular musicals of all time, The Phantom of the Opera, is heading to the Dubai Opera stage to entertain theatre-lovers. It was already scheduled for a three-week run, but three extra dates have been added, meaning the show will be on stage from Wednesday, October 16 until Saturday, November 9.

Tickets are available now from Dh250. Shows take place at 8pm daily, with weekend matinee showings at 2pm. In total, there will be 30 performances of the multi-award-winning show.

“We are honoured to be able to host one of the world’s most iconic musicals at Dubai Opera and to be able to give audiences from across the region a chance to see the phenomenon first-hand," said Dubai Opera's chief executive Jasper Hope. "We’re delighted that this extension to the run will now give more people the opportunity to experience this out-of-this-world production."

The Andrew Lloyd Webber musical tells the tale of a phantom in love with a lead soprano, premiered in 1986 and has since been seen by more than 130 million people worldwide.

The popularity of the show is, undoubtedly, down to its enduring songs, including The Music of the NightThink of Me and Masquerade.

It is based on the 1907 classic novel Le Fantome de L'Opera by Gaston Leroux, the plot revolves around a French theatre company struggling under the throes of its Phantom; a disfigured musical prodigy that lives beneath the theatre, occasionally haunting it by sending the odd chandelier crashing on to the stage.

For the Dubai production, 130 cast, crew and orchestra members will make their way to the UAE, with the lead role performed by Jonathan Roxmouth, a South African actor who has previously portrayed the Phantom in Singapore and the Philippines.

A popular performance, The Phantom of the Opera had already extended its run by a week in June this year.
