The company will put on three performances, with principal dancers Yulia Zhuravleva and Dmitry Lazovik playing the star-crossed lovers
Shakespeare enthusiasts across the UAE will be pleased to hear that Romeo and Juliet is coming to the Dubai Opera stage.
In conjunction with Van Cleef & Arpels, Dubai Opera will welcome the Moscow City Ballet and Orchestra to the emirate from April 19-21 next year.
There will be three performances of the Shakespeare classic featuring outstanding principals, talented soloists and a touching corps de ballet enhanced by the dynamic vitality of a live orchestra to create a dazzling stage production that includes dramatic sword fighting scenes, haunting death spectres and synchronised ball sequences.
Principal dancers Yulia Zhuravleva and Dmitry Lazovik will play the star-crossed lovers.
Founded in 1988 by distinguished Russian choreographer Victor Smirnov-Golovanov, the Moscow City Ballet is renowned for the perfection of its corps de ballet in the best traditions of the Russian school of classical ballet.
One of Russia’s most extensively toured ballet companies, the Moscow City Ballet has performed at iconic venues across the world.
Dubai Opera’s Chief Executive, Jasper Hope is excited to welcome them.
“I am so looking forward to enjoying the world's greatest love story performed by a great Russian ballet company and a fantastic live orchestra in the splendour and intimacy of Dubai Opera," says Hope.
"From the moment they meet to their tragic final embrace, Shakespeare's story of Romeo and Juliet accompanied by Prokofiev's score is a favourite with audiences young and old around the world."
