Dubai Opera is set to host its debut comedy production with Monty Python's Spamalot in May.

Loosely adapted from the classic 1975 film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the show is set in medieval England and provides its own zany take on the King Arthur tale, featuring a cast or neurotic knights, vicious rabbits and livid Frenchman.

Written by British comedy legend Eric Idle, who starred in the original Monty Python film, Spamalot has been performing regularly for over 50 years and won a Tony Award for its 2005 Broadway production which featured Tim Curry as King Arthur and Fraser's David Hyde Pierce as Sir Robin.

On the music front, the show is packed with nearly 30 numbers, including the much loved Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Written by Idle, the song first appeared in the 1979 film Monty Python's Life of Brian, and has now become a popular rallying cry in concerts and in some cases, a sweet send off in funerals.

Spamalot will run at Dubai Opera from May 2-6 with early bird tickets going on sale on February 15.
