How did the Nobel Prize-winning Malala Yousafzai celebrate her 21st birthday a couple of weeks ago? By joining the social media platform Instagram. Her first post, uploaded on July 12 shows her spending her birthday in Brazil, and on Saturday night, she posted from right here in Dubai.

While she’s been an avid user of Twitter for just over a year now, Instagram is a new medium for her. One of the nice features of the platform is its stories, which are shown for just 24 hours before being deleted. Based on her most recent story, she is in the UAE at the moment or has just left, and she visited La Perle at Al Habtoor City in Dubai on Saturday night.

She was obviously wowed by the show, considering she shared six videos and photos of the Franco Dragone production on her Insta stories.

While the team at La Perle weren't told in advance about her visit, they were more than happy with the news of her attendance. “It was an honour to welcome Malala Yousafzai to La Perle, we hope she enjoyed her experience and we look forward to her returning in the near future," said the team.

While we're still unsure how long she will be in the UAE for, or whether she's still here, she also posted a photo of the JW Marriott Marquis in Business Bay:

Malala isn't the first celebrity to visit La Perle. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Ruler of Dubai, attended when it first opened, and Lindsay Lohan and former Brazilian footballer Ronaldinho have also seen the stage show, which runs 365 days a year, with the theatre built especially for the performance.

Fast fact: the show's main stage transforms into a pool throughout the show, with performers actually diving into the stage at times.
