When Paul Chowdhry takes to the stage in the UAE later this month, he'll be raising more than only laughs from the audience.

The British comedian will perform his first shows in Dubai and Sharjah, hosting three gigs in the Emirates to support Penny Appeal.

The stand-up star will perform his Comedy-4-a-Cause show at Vox Cinemas Cineplex Grand Hyatt in Dubai on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27, and at the American University of Sharjah on Tuesday, January 28.

Proceeds from the concerts will go towards the charity's Back to School’project, which provides students in South Africa with supplies, equipment and learning resources.

Chowdhry, 47, first broke into the comedy circuit in the late 1990s and has since appeared on popular panel shows such as Taskmaster, 8 out of 10 Cats and The Russell Howard Hour. He has also presented TV series Stand Up for the Week and has performed on comedy special Live at the Apollo.

Chowdhry has also sold out London's 12,500-seat Wembley Arena with his live tours, and his latest show, Live Innit, can be streamed on Amazon Prime.

He'll be joined during his UAE gigs by Mina Liccione, co-founder of local comedy community Dubomedy and star of Comedy Central Arabia's Comedy Central Presents, as well as Emirati stand-up Ali Al Sayed, also a co-founder of Dubomedy.

Beatboxer MB14, who reached the finals of The Voice France, will also perform as part of the show.

Tickets for Comedy-4-a-Cause cost from Dh95 to Dh295, and can be purchased at www.platinumlist.net. Meet-and-greet sessions with Chowdhry are also available for Dh1,000.
