More than 80 children auditioned for Evita, marking the first time in Dubai Opera’s history that individuals from the UAE will be cast.

Sixteen local children will be selected by a three-judge panel for the Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice musical, portraying the life of Eva Peron. The auditions were held by Broadway Entertainment Group and Dubai Opera.

Peron was a former actress married to Juan Peron, who became president of Argentina. While serving as the First Lady, she dedicated her life to charity and women’s rights which catapulted her to fame.

More auditions are on the horizon for adults, however, dates have yet to be confirmed.

Dubai Opera will run the musical from January 22 to February 3.
