Walk of Fame: K-pop superstars Exo are the latest to be awarded a Dubai Star
The Korean-Chinese boy band are the second K-pop stars to be given the accolade, alongside BTS
Their music has been played at the Dubai Fountain, their faces have been projected on to the Burj Khalifa, and now Exo's name will be inscribed on the city's upcoming Walk of Fame.
The South Korean–Chinese boy band have been awarded a Dubai Star, which will decorate Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard when the tributes are unveiled this autumn.
"We’ve seen the legendary Exo take the music industry by storm, one act at a time," posted the official Dubai Stars Twitter account, announcing the news on Monday night. "Today, with all your nominations, we officially announce that we will be unveiling their Dubai Star in Downtown Dubai this October."
Who are Exo?
Originally founded as a 12-piece, the band now boasts nine members, who all have solo careers on the side, too.
The K-pop band, who first formed in 2011, are no strangers to the emirate, having visited last year to perform as part of the SM Town Live World Tour VI at the Autism Rocks Arena, where they were joined by other Seoul-based acts.
Exo, who are behind hits including Love Shot and Growl, also became the first K-pop band to have a track featured on the Dubai Fountain's playlist, with their smash track, Power.
The band was further honoured by getting their own LED show on the Burj Khalifa last July. The three-minute light and sound show was also set to Power.
Fans have taken to social media to celebrate the band's Walk of Fame accolade, with Dubai Stars's original post already garnering more than 13,000 likes and 16,000 retweets.
Dubai's Walk of Fame
Emaar announced the Dubai Stars project in March this year. It is set to be located on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai.
In total, there will be 10,000 stars on the walk. However, to begin with, there will be 400 Dubai Stars, which will be voted for by the public and unveiled this October.
The Dubai Walk of Fame will pay homage to local and international personalities from various fields including music and film, of course, but also art, architecture, sport and literature, as well as social influencers.
Names already revealed to feature on Dubai Stars include footballer Lionel Messi, poet Khalil Gibran, Saudi singer Abdul Majeed Abdullah, designer Elie Saab and actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Exo will also be joined on the boulevard by fellow K-pop stars, BTS, with the band being awarded their Star earlier this month.
