Syrian songstress Faia Younan will perform alongside John Legend at the US singer-songwriter's Dubai concert this weekend.

Legend's Coca-Cola Arena concert on Friday, January 31, is part of the closing celebrations of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Younan's career has taken off since 2014, when song, To Our Countries, went viral and allowed her to turn her part-time passion into a full-time job.

The 27-year-old, who was born in Syria and educated in Scotland, was then able to crowdfund her debut single, Ohebbou Yadayka. More crowdfunded singles were then to follow.

Younan describes herself as an independent singer, and now splits her time between Sweden and Lebanon.

Her husky tones featured on electro-pop group Gorillaz's single, Busted and Blue, from 2016's much-lauded album Humanz, and she was pegged as a tantalising new regional talent.

In 2017, Younan fully showcased her talents with debut album Baynatna Fi Bahr (A Sea Between Us), a beautifully delicate collection of baroque Arabic folk songs.

Younan spoke of her excitement at performing with Legend on her Instagram page, saying: "Friends in Dubai and UAE, I cannot wait until we meet and sing together."

Friday's concert marks a return to the UAE for Legend. The Ordinary People hit maker headlined the Dubai Jazz Festival back in 2018. Legend will play songs from his 16-year career, including All of MeGreen Light and Love Me Now.

Tickets for the show are on sale now and start at Dh195 for silver level seating going up to Dh995 for for VIP tickets.

The concert marks the end of a month-long sale across the emirate, which has seen dozens of malls and hundreds of stores slash prices for the annual shopping event.

The start of Dubai Shopping Festival was marked with two outdoor concerts in Burj Park, which saw performances from Liam Payne, Jorja Smith, Cheb Khaled and Hussain Al Jassmi. Robbie Williams then performed on Friday, January 24 at The Pointe.
