The Stereophonics are returning to Dubai for their first standalone gig.

After headlining the defunct Sandance Festival at Atlantis the Palm and Party in the Park in 2012 and 2015 respectively, the Welsh rockers are now set to take the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre stage on their own right on May 11.

The near 12,000 crowd capacity will be a relatively intimate gig for the four-piece, who are a mammoth stadium act in the UK and are coming to the UAE on the back of another sell-out tour in their homeland.

The reason for the latest run of shows is the group's new album Scream Above the Sounds.

Released last year, the tenth album finds them not straying too far away from their standard rock formula. Yet there are hints of progress with tracks such as Taken a Tumble featuring some saxophone while What the Fuss is About is more on the psychedelic end, with woozy guitars and a mariachi trumpet.

That said, it is the band's healthy catalogue of hits (Maybe Tomorrow, Dakota and Local Boy in the Photograph) that are responsible for those packed gigs. Formed in 1992 and led by raspy vocals of singer and guitarist Kelly Jones, the group announced themselves with their 1997 debut album Word Gets Around and since then the following albums all debuted at the top spot of the UK charts.

Stereophonics perform at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre on May 11. Tickets begin from Dh399 and are available on dubai.platinumlist.net
