You just released your first album Sunrise recently, are you happy with reception?

Definitely. It has been in the works for over two years now and it shows what my music is about. It has this nice summer vibe and I like the idea of bringing that tropical feeling to some of the cooler parts of the world.

What was behind the decision to make an album?

It wasn’t really a conscious one. It just happened to be that I had a lot of music on the shelf, so to speak. And as a DJ you can only release a song once every three months otherwise there is no room for it to grow and reach the radio. My issue was that I was creating up to six songs every three months. I decided that I would work with all these songs and make them an album. That said, I went through all of them and took them apart and put them together again in order to make them great and something that I can be proud off.

Sunrise boasts the fun lead single Yes which is a collaboration with Akon. How did that come together?

That was awesome because Akon is like a childhood hero to me. When I met him to work on the song I was star-struck. I think with this song we both pushed our respective genres. It is not a real hip-hop song or a real house song. It is just this weird mix styles and that’s what makes it special.

You and Alex Shulz also teamed for a catchy cover of Be My Lover by 1990's Europop group La Bouche. Was that as fun to make as it sounds?

It was long process actually – I think the song took just over a year to make. It was never meant to be an actual cover. Basically what happened was when I was building the track around the material that Alex sent I kept hearing that La Bouche hook in my head. So I spoke to Trevor Dahl from Cheat Codes to sing the hook but do it in a way that was original.

Can you tell us more about the live musicians you are brining with you for your set at Sensation?

With Dubai I am bringing a horn and trumpet player. The reason why I chose these instruments is that if you listen to my tracks you can always hear those sounds in there. So it just made sense to play them live and bring them to the fans in Dubai.

Sensation Dubai will be held on November 10 at Meydan Racecourse.  Tickets begin from Dh390 from dubai.platinumlist.net. For details go to www.sensation.com/cities/dubai
