Bonnie Franklin dies at 69

Bonnie Franklin, described as a "life force" and star of the sitcom One Day at a Time, has died at age 69. The television actress, who had pancreatic cancerdiagnosed last year, died at her home in Los Angeles on Friday. Franklin was most noted for her role as the divorced mother, Ann Romano, on the show developed by Norman Lear and co-created by Whitney Blake. The series was seen as groundbreaking for its focus on a young, divorced mother seeking independence from a suffocating marriage. The show ran from 1975 until 1984. Upon hearing news of Franklin's death Lear said: "I was wrong. I thought life forces never die." Franklin made her acting debut in the 1950s on NBC's Colgate Comedy Hour. She also starred in Mr. Novak, Gidget and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and was nominated for a Tony Award for her stage work. AP

Bacon discovers his wife is a relative

After taking part in a TV show that traces blood lines and genetic histories, the actor Kevin Bacon found out that his wife of 25 years is a distant cousin. According to a report in the Daily Mail, Bacon and his actress wife Kyra Sedgwick are ninth cousins, once removed. Bacon, also known for the game Six Degrees to Kevin Bacon, which shows that anyone is just six connections away from the Hollywood star, said: "It's a beautiful concept that we are connected. That we all, essentially, kind of climbed out of the same swamp. It's fun to be at the forefront of that idea." - The National Staff

O'Brien to leave Dowton Abbey

Siobhan Finneran says she will miss playing the nasty lady's maid Sarah O'Brien in the British period drama Downton Abbey, who she calls "a despicable human being". According to Huffington Post UK, Finneran's character will not appear in the fourth season of the show. Meanwhile, as filming gets underway this week, the show's producers have told The Daily Telegraph that six new characters will be added, including two young aristocrats played by Tom Cullen and Julian Ovenden. Kevin Hart to host Saturday Night Live

Joking that his discomfort at making eye contact made rehearsals difficult, Kevin Hart seemed to be taking his first time hosting NBC's Saturday Night Live in stride. The stand-up comedian says he was not nervous because he loved what he did and that the opportunity to do it on the SNL stage was "ridiculous". In the promo, Hart, 32, made fun of his height - he is 5 feet 2 inches and is said to perform standing on a box. SNL screens in the UAE on OSN Comedy at 9pm tonight. AP
