Kevin Fret, the rapper and advocate for the LGBT community, has been shot dead in Puerto Rico at the age of 24.

It has been reported that Fret, the first openly gay Latin trap artist, was shot eight times at around 5.30am local time, while riding his motorcycle in Santurce, San Juan.

Fret’s manager Eduardo Rodriguez released an official statement in which he described Fret as “an artistic soul” and called for an end to the violence in Puerto Rico.

“Kevin was an artistic soul, a big-hearted dreamer. His passion was music, and still had a lot to do,” the statement reads. “This violence must stop. There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many dreams has to go.

“We must all unite in these difficult times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico.”

Fret released his debut single, Soy Asi, last year. It has over 600,000 views on YouTube. Fret also featured on Mike Duran's hit Diferente.
