The 32-year-old designer Buffi Jashanmal, who grew up in Dubai and is currently living in New York, is a contestant in the latest season of the American reality competition series Project Runway, which premiered last week. In 2007, Jashanmal launched her high-fashion womenswear company Quiet Riot Dubai, with lines sold at various boutiques in the UAE. She moved to New York in 2010 to work for House of Diehl, an avant-garde fashion label, as well as to launch her own collection. Jashanmal also teaches an after-school fashion design programme to primary and secondary pupils. "I want to be able to work half the year in NYC and half the year in Dubai, so I can help my mother … and sell in two amazing cities and two different markets. It would allow so many options as a designer," she wrote on the show's website, where she has also posted a video featuring her home in Dubai.
