Ohio rapper Q-Money arrested for murder
'Work' star allegedly killed fellow rapper Calvin Alexander Chappell
Ohio rapper Q-Money faces a felony murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing a fellow rapper.
Qamar Akee Williams, who is better known as Q-Money, was charged after 24-year-old Calvin Alexander Chappell was fatally shot multiple times earlier this week. The 23-year-old rapper turned himself in to police on Thursday.
He was allegedly seen standing over the victim’s body by a roommate, according to a police report. When asked what was going on, Williams began stuttering “I” over and over again, the roommate told police.
Williams previously has a felony conviction from 2014 for drug trafficking, according to local newspaper the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
His breakthrough song Work from 2017 has received more than 8.5 million views on YouTube. Last year, he signed a deal with Warner Brothers and Think It’s a Game Records.
This isn’t the first time Q-Money has been associated with gun violence. In August 2018, during the shooting of his first music video under the new label, for the track Neat, which has received over 7.1m views on YouTube, a shooting broke out, injuring six people and killing 27-year-old Cortez Ruffin.
Williams told The Plain Dealer at the time that he was disturbed by the shooting and that he was particularly upset because he makes a point to not show prop guns in his videos.
As of Thursday afternoon, he remained in jail without bond, police records show.
