Norah Jones performs in New Delhi

The singer Norah Jones, 33, performed for the first time in New Delhi on Tuesday. The show was opened by the singer M.Ward. Jones, dressed in a black and white printed short dress, took the stage and said she was "excited to perform here". The daughter of the late Indian sitar legend Ravi Shankar and the half sister of Anoushka Shankar, Jones is on tour in India to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer in the country. Yesterday she performed in Mumbai and tomorrow night she will perform her final gig in Bangalore. - IANS

John Abraham helps spread light

The Bollywood actor John Abraham has lent his name to PowerLight A Village, an initiative to provide solar electricity to remote villages across India. "This is an amazing and powerful initiative, which will help us spread light across hundreds of villages by using natural resources like solar energy. I urge all my fans to get out and make difference and 'take care' of not only themselves but the ones around them as well," Abraham said in a statement. The initiative will provide villagers with one solar lamp that also has an in-built mobile charging unit, one solar tube light and one solar panel to charge their equipment. - IANS

Priyanka Chopra on Bengali characters

A year after receiving critical acclaim for portraying Jhilmil Chatterjee, an autistic Bengali girl, in Barfi, the National Award winner Priyanka Chopra feels elated at her second outing as a Bengali character in the forthcoming film Gunday. "I think Bengali girls are beautiful and bold and I love playing bold and beautiful girls. I am very happy to be playing Bengali characters," she said. Priyanka is in Calcutta shooting for Gunday, an action-drama-turned-romance written and directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film, also starring Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor and scheduled for release later this year, revolves around two small-time thugs, or "gundays", who get involved with the coal mafia. - IANS

Neha Dhupia excited about Vancouver

The Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia will host the musical night at the Times of India Film Awards held in Vancouver in April. "It's Times of India, I am not expecting anything less than the best," said Neha. The actress has previously been to Vancouver and is excited to go back. "Just being able to see parts of Canada and British Columbia was amazing. I am going back to Vancouver now, I am excited," she said. "Trips to Canada have been wonderful. It's nice to see somewhere which is scarcely populated." - IANS

No dieting for Sonal Chauhan

The actress Sonal Chauhan, 27, who worked hard on her body to carry off bikinis in her forthcoming release 3G, in which she teams up with Neil Nitin Mukesh, does not believe in dieting and says she eats everything, preferring to hit the gym instead. "My fitness mantra is eat everything. I don't believe in dieting. I eat everything. I go to the gym and burn it all out," she said, and advises working out five days a week, for an hour each time. "I think every person deserves that much time for themselves. When we hit the gym, then besides physical fitness, we achieve mental fitness as well. It has been scientifically proven that when you exercise, your body produces happy hormones." - IANS
