Nineties music fest comes to UAE

The Mix Tape Rewind festival will gather pop acts from the 1990s at the Emirates Golf Club on November 16. Headlining the festival are the English pop duo Go West and the former lead singer of Ace of Base, Jenny Berggren. Also lined up to perform are Haddaway, Snap, Culture Beat, La Bouche and No Mercy. Amy Poehler and Will Arnett separate

Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are separating after nine years of marriage. They have two sons - a three-year-old and a two-year-old. Their personal lives may be in turmoil, but professionally, both are on an upswing. Poehler stars in the sitcom Parks and Recreation and is up for an Emmy for lead actress, while Arnett co-stars with Christina Applegate on the comedy series Up All Night. - AP

Lil Jon and Ali Shaheed take on Dubai

Two hip-hop acts are coming to Dubai on Thursday. The Grammy-winning rapper Lil Jon will perform at Atlantis The Palm's Nasimi Pool with a host of local talent. Tickets are Dh200. One Direction top MTV video awards

The British boy band One Direction scooped three top prizes at Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Video and Most Share-Worthy Video, while Rihanna won Video of the Year for We Found Love. Her former partner Chris Brown and the edgy British singer MIA were runners-up with two gongs apiece. Notable performances included Taylor Swift and Alicia Keys playing their new singles. - AFP

McCartney awarded legion of honour

Sir Paul McCartney has received France's legion of honour for his services to music. The 70-year-old former member of The Beatles was decorated at the rank of officer by the French president, François Hollande, in a ceremony yesterday in Paris. - AP

All eyes on Stewart at Toronto film fest

Kristen Stewart grabbed the spotlight at the opening of the Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday in her first public appearance since she apologised for having a tryst with the married director of her film Snow White and the Huntsman in July. Stewart is promoting her new movie On the Road, based on the Jack Kerouac novel. On the red carpet, Stewart showed a "bit of anxiety, leg trembling", reported The Globe and Mail. Asked how she was doing, Stewart responded: "I'm doing fine." Then, she walked away. Reporters also noted she was looking down throughout all her interviews. - AFP
