Nicki Minaj announces retirement from music
The singer and rapper broke the news to fans on Twitter
Nicki Minaj appears to have announced her retirement from music in order to have a family.
The Grammy Award-nominated singer, who is married to the rapper Kenneth Petty, posted on Twitter: “I’ve decided to retire and have my family. I know you guys are happy now.”
The 36-year-old then referenced her 2012 collaboration with Alicia Keys, Girl on Fire, saying: “To my fans, keep reppin’ me, do it til da death of me.”
There has been some speculation about whether or not Minaj is serious about retiring. It is not the first time she has pranked her fans, releasing a fake album track list in 2016.
Minaj released her debut album, Pink Friday, in 2010 and went on to have hit singles with songs such as Anaconda and Starships. She has also collaborated with Madonna, Kanye West and Justin Bieber.
However, Minaj’s latest album did not top the US charts and she cancelled a subsequent tour.
