Lady Gaga gets waxed at Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds has unveiled plans to produce not one, not two, but eight different waxworks of the singer.

As if any more signs were needed that Lady Gaga is slowly taking over the world, Madame Tussauds has unveiled plans to produce not one, not two, but eight different waxworks of the singer, for the princely sum of £1.2 million (Dh7.1m).

The subject of celebrity waxworks is not normally a particularly fascinating one, but given the singer's penchant for incredibly garish get-ups, there will at least be the added interest of seeing which outfits have been chosen for the figures. And before you ask, that infamous meat outfit from the MTV Music Awards in September hasn't made the cut.

The waxworks will be displayed in the Amsterdam, Berlin, New York, LA, Las Vegas, Shanghai and Hong Kong branches of the museum, as well as the original museum in London, marking the first time Tussauds has ever produced so many waxworks of one celebrity at once. Given the scale of the undertaking, it can only be hoped that the waxwork is a good one - history is littered with toe-curlingly unsuccessful examples that bear more resemblance to shop mannequins than the celebrities they are supposed to represent.

Still, however it turns out, it might not be the strangest celebrity waxwork ever. That honour arguably goes to a figure of the two-month-old Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, the daughter of the actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, unveiled in New York in 2006. Whether the octo-Gaga will be more or less creepy than that remains to be seen.
