K-pop boy band BTS to present an award at the 2019 Grammys
The Korean music sensations are also up for their first golden gramophone on the night
There are just days to go until the annual music celebration kicks off, and the Grammy Awards are starting to drum up some hype before the February 10 event.
Korean pop sensations BTS will present an award. it has been revealed, on the same night the seven-piece boy band is up for its first-ever Grammy.
A spokesperson for the band confirmed to Entertainment Tonight that its members – namely Jimin, J-Hope, Jungkook, Jin, V, Suga and RM – will take to the stage at the 61st annual awards, though did not reveal in which category BTS will present the golden gramophone.
The band are up for the Best Recording Package for their album Love Yourself: Tear, alongside fellow nominees including St Vincent and Foxhole.
This month will mark the band's debut appearance at the awards, in a dream come true for member Suga, who told Jimmy Fallon last year that a goal left on his bucket-list was to "go to the Grammys".
News of BTS' scheduled appearance quickly went viral, with the hashtag #BTSxGrammys trending on Twitter on Monday evening.
Last year, BTS became the first Korean pop group to top the Billboard album charts in the US, and sold out a concert at New York City’s Citi Field. They're behind hits singles such as Idol, while albums Love Yourself: Tear and Love Yourself: Answer both debuted on the US Billboard 200 chart at No 1 in 2018.
Other artists scheduled to perform at the February 10 awards – which will be hosted by R&B star Alicia Keys – include Camila Cabello, Cardi B, Miley Cyrus, H.E.R. and Post Malone with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Kendrick Lamar leads the night's nominations with eight nods, swiftly followed by Drake's seven and Brandi Carlile's six. Lady Gaga, Cardi B and Childish Gambino are also up for a handful of awards, with female performers boasting a heavy presence in top categories after being largely snubbed a year ago.
