Introducing Daisy Dove Bloom: Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom welcome their first child
The couple say they are 'floating with love' after the birth of their daughter
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom have welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Daisy Dove.
The American singer and British actor, who became engaged last year, announced their baby's safe arrival on Wednesday, August 26, in a statement to Unicef.
The couple also shared a glimpse of their daughter on Instagram, as they held her hand, with Perry sporting nail art in the shape of a daisy.
The couple, who are both Goodwill Ambassadors for the global children's organisation, urged their fans to donate to the charity, in support of parents whose fortunes were not quite as lucky.
"We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter," said Perry, 35, and Bloom, 43.
"But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was."
The couple cited communities who have been impacted by the coronavirus, with the pandemic causing a shortage of medical supplies.
"Every 11 seconds a pregnant woman or newborn dies, mostly from preventable causes," said the couple. "As parents to a newborn, this breaks our hearts, as we empathise with struggling parents now more than ever."
The pair have set up a donation page in "celebration of the heart we know our daughter already has".
"By supporting Unicef, you are supporting a safe start to life and reimagining a healthier world for every child. We hope your heart can bloom with generosity."
This is the first child for Roar star Perry, who was previously married to comedian Russell Brand, and the second for Lord of the Rings actor Bloom, who shares a son, Flynn, 9, with his former wife, model Miranda Kerr.
The pair revealed they were expecting a baby in March, as Perry debuted her pregnancy in her music video for Never Worn White.
