The Fridge is returning with a new concert series. Back after a four-month hiatus, the music venue is ramping up activities again with a string of shows running at its Alserkal Avenue location next month.

True to The Fridge’s ethos of supporting local talent, all five concerts feature UAE artists performing in various styles, ranging from jazz and soul to Khaleeji pop.

All concert tickets are Dh80 each, and to ensure social distancing is in place, tickets are only available for groups of two and four.

The return of concerts at The Fridge is just part of the resurgence of the UAE’s live events industry. This week, Dubai Opera announced its return with an Eid concert by Hussain Al Jassmi and a hologram performance by the late Egyptian diva Umm Kulthum.

Earlier this month, Dubai Festival City Arena hosted Tomorrowland Around the World, a dance music festival conducted with strict safety measures, while in June, the enduring live comedy series Laughter Factory also made a comeback with a string of shows across the emirate.

Here is your guide to the gigs at The Fridge:

Latin Fusion with Jose Ramon: Monday, August 3

A Cuban trombone and piano virtuoso, Ramon's sound is a vibrant marriage between the traditional rhythms of his homeland and funk and jazz. An experienced performer, Ramon has played at various high-profile events, including Abu Dhabi's Mother of The Nation festival and the Dubai Jazz Festival.

Oud vibes with Sadiq Jaafar: Monday, August 10

Oudist Sadiq Jaafar found regional chart success back in 2012 with his debut album Arab Oud Nights. In his show, the Iraqi artist will recreate the charm of that record, and its 2016 follow-up Oud Vibes, helped by an eclectic backing band made up of traditional Arabic musicians and Latin jazz players.

Masha Kutskova: Wednesday, August 17

A versatile performer, the Russian saxophonist has performed alongside DJs in some of UAE's biggest clubs as well as at lavish concerts alongside orchestras. This time around, she dials it down with an intimate solo performance featuring whimsical takes of modern pop tunes as well as respectful treatments of jazz standards.

Soul music with Aleksandra Krstic: Monday, August 24

This gig is all about the voice. Krstic is a seasoned UAE performer with a love of all things soul. Expect classic tracks by Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Billie Holiday as well as modern favourites by Lauryn Hill and SZA.

Khaleeji pop with Fahad Al Aref: Saturday, August 29

Ever since making his performance debut at last year's Mother of The Nation festival in Abu Dhabi, the Emirati singer has built a dedicated following. This is due to a fresh approach to Khaleeji pop, which blends traditional sounds with his love for jazz and blues. With Al Aref’s latest track Heel Feeny already amassing more than a half a million views on YouTube in the space of a month, this series closer is guaranteed to sell out.
