Flying with wings: Westlife to perform at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena
The beloved pop group will have their season in the sun
Irish pop group Westlife are bringing their Twenty Tour to the UAE on August 29. They will perform at Dubai's Coca-Cola Arena.
The foursome, who are best known for tunes from the '90s such as Flying Without Wings, Swear It Again and Uptown Girl, have sold more than 55 million records worldwide.
Among the world's most-loved boy bands, Westlife will be reminiscing on 20 years in the industry, taking us on a trip down memory lane, with hits from the past two decades. They'll also perform a couple of their brand-new singles, too, which were released after the band took a six-year break. These are Better Man and Hello My Love, written by Ed Sheeran and Steve Mac.
Westlife are no strangers to the UAE, having last performed here in 2011.
This 20th anniversary tour marks the first time they've gigged together since 2012.
This is the third act announced to perform in Dubai's new mega-venue, the Coca-Cola Arena, which will open in City Walk this June. Comedian Russell Peters will bring his Deported World Tour to the arena on June 6, becoming the first-ever act to perform in the 17,000-capacity indoor venue. Following that, American pop-rock band Maroon 5 will also perform on June 14.
More acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, Guy Ngata, chief executive of the Coca-Cola Arena, told The National. He said the venue will host everything from motocross to boxing, as well as Arabic, Bollywood and international acts in the next 12 months.
“It's a game changer for Dubai and the region,” Ngata added. “We can now facilitate needs, up to international standards. Patrons want an improving and evolving experience, and we have a fan first commitment.”
