"Korean pop music has grown in popularity at an astonishing pace and has a massive appeal around the world. We look forward to welcoming fans from around the world here to experience the infectious brand of music that is K-pop in all its glory right here in Dubai," said Mohammed Khammas, chief executive of Al Ahli Holding Group, parent company of 117 Live.

One example of the widespread appeal of K-pop in the Middle East came when popular boy band Exo visited Dubai in January.

Their hit song Power became the first Korean pop song to be added to the Dubai Fountain list of melodies.

While here, they caused a social media frenzy with the hashtag #WelcometoDubaiEXO becoming one of the top trending hashtags and drew fans to the airport early in the morning in anticipation of their arrival.

However, Exo isn’t the only act with a huge fan base heading to Dubai. BoA, one of the top female artists in Korea, will also be appearing. She is the first Korean artist to achieve more than a million in sales and the first to enter Billboard 200 when she did so in 2009.

This isn't the first time K-pop stars have descended on the UAE. In 2016, KCON was held in Abu Dhabi's du Arena. The one-day cultural extravaganza featuredBTS, TaeYeon from Girls' Generation, Kyuhyun from Super Junior, Double S 301, Monsta X and SPICA.
