It’s a case of 10 out of 10 for Eminem.
The superstar rapper's surprise album, Music to be Murdered By, has gone straight to the top of the US pop chart this week, thus making him the first artist to have ten consecutive albums landing at the top spot.
Eminem has now surpassed Kanye West, whose recent chart topping album, Jesus is King, had both rappers tied at nine consecutive number one's each.
Eminem’s latest album powered to the top of the charts on the back of 117,000 in album sales and 218 million streams, according to the chart aggregator Nielsen Music.
Released earlier this month, the album finds Eminem once again in ruthless and caustic form, with his dazzling vocal delivery tempered by some of the controversial lyrical stabs against a host of celebrities.
Not that he cares. In an Instagram post announcing the record, Eminem warns that “this album is not for the squeamish. If you are easily offended or unnerved at the screams of bloody murder, this may not be the collection for you.”
In The National's mixed review of the album, Si Hawkins stated that while "there is no disputing Eminem's enormous vocal talents, and Music to Be Murdered By makes it abundantly clear that he can still pull off the old tricks.
"You just wish that he would grow up a bit, too.”
Eminem has yet to announce a tour supporting Music to be Murdered By.
His last performance remains his October 25 date in Abu Dhabi's Du Arena.
